The National Retail Federation surveyed nearly 6,800 people in early September about their Halloween plans for 2016. It found that Americans will spend an estimated $8.4 billion on the holiday, including $3.1 billion on costumes. And for the first time in the 11 years the survey has been conducted, princess costumes aren’t the most popular.
