Reuben Sandwich
Putting together pastrami or corned beef, sauerkraut and homemade Russian dressing might have been the idea of Arnold Rueben, the German owner of New York’s Reuben’s Delicatessen in 1914. Or it may have been the inspiration of grocer Reuben Kulakofsky, who fed a version of the sandwich to hungry poker players at Omaha’s Blackstone Hotel in 1925.
