Mass Effect 3 (2012)
Even if you don’t buy the premise that on its own ME3 is a great shooter, even if you don’t buy the premise that on its own ME3 is a great RPG, even if you don’t buy the premise that ME3 is a great adventure game … you must acknowledge that the real victory of the Mass Effect series is the integration of all of those elements into one seamless package. Additionally, the ending was so controversial that internet voted Electronic Arts as “The Worst Company in America”— not because the game wasn’t fun and not because it was ultra-violent or sexist, but because fans hoping for a slam-bang finale to Commander Shepard’s adventure were given an oddly cerebral ending that minimized many of the games selling features. Again, people were rabidly angry … because they didn’t like the ending … of a video game. We’re a long way from “All Your Bases Are Belong To Us.”
