The live music capital of the world is also home to the state’s flagship University of Texas and at least 13 other post-secondary schools. As well as all the music you can take in, Austin has dozens of museums, like the mammoth Bullock Texas State History Museum and LBJ Presidential Library, and about 25 hospitals. The weather is scorching in summer (high/lows in August of 97/75) and pleasant in winter (62/41 in January). Austin has been a retiree magnet since 2000.
