1. Raleigh, NC
Senior population growth (2000 to 2010): 60 percent
Set in the Research Triangle, this area is home to about 20 colleges and universities, which means lots of cultural attractions, music, and art. There are two world-class teaching hospitals and at least a dozen other hospitals in the area. Golf courses abound, and the beach is just a 2½-hour drive. And the area is subtropical, with high/lows in July of 90/69 and 51/30 in January. All of this has made it the fastest-growing metro area for seniors over the past decade.
