School Math Scores

There’s still a long way to go, but kids are receiving higher math scores now than in 1990. For fourth graders, last year’s average score on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test was 28 points higher than in 1990 (a rise of 13 percent), and for eighth graders it was 21 points higher (8 percent). A NAEP official attributes the increase to improvements in math instruction, according to a New York Times report.
