Wall Street Protests: An American Tradition

Men of Steel

As many as 350,000 steelworkers walked off the job in 1919 to demand union recognition. At the culmination of the four-month long strike, there was an all-day gun battle in Homestead, PA. that left 12 dead and dozens more wounded. In January of 1920, the strike was called off; the result was that the steelworkers lost their fight and returned to work.
