9. The basement
Check the home’s systems, like the hot water heater or the HVAC. While you’ll get them professionally inspected if you make an offer, you can still eyeball whether they seem to be in good shape. Also keep an eye out for signs of moisture in the basement, which could signal mold or flood issues.
