In the past few seasons the trend has been for the best players in the world to leave England for the sunnier climes of Spain, Italy or France. But Arsenal Football Club, after a decade of shopping in the bargain bin, decided to make a statement of intent by purchasing one of the crown jewels of the German national team on the last day of the transfer window.
Though Ozil was clearly ushered out of Madrid by Bale's arrival, his record as an assist provider is unrivaled in Europe and there are many that think that the Gunners got the better end of this deal.
