Ever made a reservation to use a desk? Here’s how hoteling works: Instead of showing up to work at your own desk and dedicated workspace, you simply make a reservation to use one. Hoteling comes in handy at companies where employees travel often or work out of the office. Precious office real estate does not go unused, and the square footage a company uses is reduced overall.
Deloitte and EY (Ernst & Young) are among the converts to this practice, which has existed for years. Now, the idea is picking up speed as work spaces become more flexible and welcoming to the teams of partners, clients, freelancers and contract workers who stream in and out of office environments to collaborate.
