Today's Tea Party
Tens of thousands of conservative grassroots activists, or “Tea Party” members, descended on Capitol Hill in October 2009 to protest the runaway growth of government spending. The gathering was largely peaceful, but it helped fuel hundreds of rallies that have rocked primaries and rattled both Democratic and GOP politicians.
